The Garden

How a Consulting Firm Opened an Event Space

In 2018, the Building Momentum operation was growing and needed a bigger place to call home, they found an old furniture display showroom in West End Alexandria, VA and put down roots. After plenty of demolition, some new paint and some lucky timing, the venue, workshop, offices and patio were completed. The completed space was named “The Garden” because there is no better place for growth than a garden!

Almost immediately after settling in the new space the team realized the part of The Garden that had formally been the furniture display showroom, was quite chic—industrial chic, even. Soon thereafter, The Garden was established as a rentable events venue and hosted its first event there, a company holiday party. Since then, The Garden has seen events from baby showers to funerals, and bat mitzvahs to quinceañeras, and of course weddings, birthdays, meetings, galas, you name it!

The Building Momentum machine still operates out of the space and uses The Garden for facilitations, STEAM-based youth programs, and community partnerships! Don’t be surprised to see a wedding, a welding lesson, and a corporate meeting happening at the same time.

The Garden is named to evoke the sense of a community garden - a single piece of land collectively tended by a group of people. It is a place where individuals of all backgrounds and experiences come together to grow -- grow in experience, knowledge, memories -- something more than just their own projects. Just like soil benefits from having multiple crops, our garden space flourishes because of our diversity of ideas and people.

The Garden team is composed of individuals who believe in ACCESSIBILITY, creativity, and inclusion. Together, we are stronger. Together, we go further. Together, we can make a difference.
